The Flame

A 30-Day Music Memory Series

The setting for every dance my middle school had.

“The Flame” by Cheap Trick fills the air.
Kids are sprinkled across the bleachers, looking out on a small cluster of brave souls who’ve made their way onto the floor.

I stand alone against the wall in a dimly lit, smelly gym, watching pairs of kids I know slowly rocking back and forth in slow circles, wondering if someone might ask me to dance.

Did you attend Jr High dances? What was “the song?”
