Our Small Family Business — 5 Years and a Global Pandemic Later

We always said with Picture This Clothing, we’d ride it ’til the wheels fall off. We invested all the “viral boom of 2016” earnings right back into building something sustainable across the years that followed. Around May of 2018, we saw things level out but still saw enough momentum to keep our focus aimed at growth and working out the various obstacles by priority. We built our own team, built custom software from the ground-up, brought manufacturing in-house to up the quality, and dropped the turn-around time from 30-days to 10. We also built up an incredible community of nearly 200k people across Facebook, Instagram, and our email subscriber list. All without any outside investment.

In all honesty, the wheels may have fallen off back in 2019. But, even still, Ken and I have been pumping personal money into the company month after month, keeping it alive out of love and hope. And because it’s brought more smiles to more kids (and grownups) than we ever imagined possible when we launched. All this has been rewarding beyond any “job” I’ve ever had. (Here’s a link to a 30-second Facebook video of real customers and their joy, in case you’re curious.)

2020 didn’t hit us as hard as it could have because, since launching in 2016, we’ve seen the annual pattern of feast through the holiday season Nov–Dec, and famine…
