Completely bananas. I may have to write my own story out as its own post, but the short of it is that I learned around a decade ago that at $70k/yr I could live a really comfortable lifestyle as an independent mother of two with a mortgage. Anything I’ve earned over $70k could go toward savings/investing and occasional luxuries. 10 yrs later I still hold to that dollar amount as being a super luxurious lifestyle for me. I don’t even feel all that frugal. My home is paid for in full, just because I’ve stayed put and never felt the need to “upgrade” to a bigger home (this one is 2400 sf, it’s plenty.) My car is paid for in full. It’s a long range Tesla Model 3, nice but not fancy (but maxed out on customizations.) So now, my cost of living is actually less than it was 10 years ago–I can’t even wrap my brain around the idea of scraping-by at $15k/mo.
