I drew this on some Amazon package packing paper. Then photographed it.

How many times have you witnessed (or participated in) an email exchange like this:

Person 1: “Do you have time this week for a call to discuss?”

Person 2: “Yes, I’m available all week, let me know what works for you.”

Person 1: “I’m available Tuesday-Friday, except for Wed from 2–5 pm, otherwise completely available.”

Person 2: “Ok, let’s do Tuesday at 1 pm.”

Person 1: “Sounds good. East Coast time zone?”

Person 2: “No, I’m Central. Time will still work, though.”

I love time. Time is one of the most valuable things I have in my life. I respect time intensely, and I really appreciate the people who respect my time. That being the case, I want to make the most of it and be as efficient as possible, in as many ways as possible.

I can’t tell you the amount of conversations I have been looped into or cc’d on that look like the example above.

While the ways to be more efficient in communication like this may seem obvious, many really smart folks are wasting far more time than they need to with exchanges like this (or worse).
